BA programme

Main fields of study

Language, literature, cultural studies and history

Language(s) of instruction

Primarily German. Some courses are taught in Danish. Examinations are conducted in either German or Danish in accordance with the exam regulations. At certain examinations the student may choose freely between the two languages.

Access requirements

B-level German from an upper secondary school leaving examination.

Programme requirements

The aims of the BA programme are to:

  • develop the student’s communicative skills in German;
  • introduce the student to the German-speaking world – its history, culture and literature;
  • familiarise the student with theories and methods for conducting research in the humanities and encourage critical thinking.

Professional status

The Bachelor of Arts in German Studies qualifies the candidate for positions which require basic academic skills, e.g. in translation. The BA also qualifies the candidate for further studies at MA level.

MA programme

Programme requirements

The aims of the MA programme are to:

  • extend and deepen the student’s familiarity with the subject’s scholarly methods and theoretical basis;
  • develop the student’s knowledge and competence in a number of elective topic areas by means of independent work;
  • improve the student’s proficiency in the German language.

The MA programme aims to make the graduates competent to approach humanistic studies in an independent fashion and thus to qualify them for a broad spectrum of employment in both the public and in the private sectors.

Professional status

The Master of Arts in German Studies qualifies the candidate for positions where the exchange between German and Danish language and culture is central, e.g. language teaching and translation.
