A biography in Danish about Field Marshal Montgomery of Alamein (1887-1976). The book provides an up-to-date assessment of scholarly views on his personality and his strengths and weaknesses as a military leader. Particular attention is paid to his role in the liberation of Denmark from German occupation in May 1945 and to his criticism of Danish defence efforts during his frequent visits to Denmark as Deputy Supreme Commander of NATO in the 1950s.
