Guest lecture by Marcus Keller
"The Image of the Turk in Renaissance France" by Marcus Keller, Associate Professor of French, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
The lecture will be realised as a video-conference and is open to all interested!
After a short historical contextualization of Franco-Ottoman relations, prof. Marcus Keller will offer a more systematic discussion of the use (and abuse) of the Turk in fiction, political theory, and religious polemic with the goal of making some general claims about the function of this imaginary figure in early modern France.
The lecture is part of the interdisciplinary course on Renaissance Europe in a Global Context (Open University).
