Lecture by Stuart Ward
Britain before and after Brexit
Stuart Ward will look back on the extraordinary summer of 2016 with a view to discerning the underlying tensions and deeper causes that led to Britain's decision to exit the European Union on 23 June. What were the major issues that determined the outcome and what does it tell us about British identity politics after more than forty years of difficult adjustment to a post-imperial world? The likely future scenarios will also be considered, as well as the key interest groups presently jostling for influence in securing Britain's future relationship with the EU.
