The seminar will revolve around the exciting new project, 'Embers of Empire: the Receding Frontiers of Post-Imperial Britain', being run within the Australian Studies section of the department by Dr Stuart Ward. It will focus on the re-entry of empire into British historiography since the 1980s, and will involve two papers from participants within the project: Dr Stuart Ward and Christian Damm Pedersen.
Dr Stuart Ward: ‘The MacKenziean idea in context: Charting the re-entry of empire into British history’.
Christian Damm Pederen: ‘“Nothing but rotten teeth” or “soaked in empire”? Absent-minded imperialists and popular imperialism in the contemporary debate on empire and culture in Britain’.
