In her dissertation “Adaptive Agency and Arab American Womanhood, 1893–1967” Martina Koegeler-Abdi develops new perspectives on the cultural history of early Syrian American communities. Her analysis focuses on women’s cultural agency in managing both community formation and the ambivalences of US racial formations.
