I am interested in understanding health amidst contingent socio-cultural contexts and political-economic underpinnings. I received trainings in medicine, psych-disciplines and related social sciences. Having worked across biomedical, basic-sciences’ and the social sciences’ institutes, my present engagement as a postdoctoral fellow in medical humanities at the KU, has offered me the unique opportunity to explore relevant ideas from an interdisciplinary perspective. My Wellcome Trust funded doctoral research work at the NIMHANS, India concerned history of mind and growth of ideas and associated changes in mental health culture in south Asia. Soon after defending my PhD thesis in January 2020, I joined the CSSSC, India as a postdoctoral fellow for two years (March 2020 to February 2022), under aegis of the Mellon Foundation to look into decolonizing mental health and the psych sciences in the subcontinent. Besides teaching in various related programs before the university students, I also volunteered as a mental health enthusiast and practitioner in the communities. While at the CSSSC, I co-directed an ICSSR funded project to look into the social science dimensions of the covid19 pandemic in India. My present postdoctoral work at the KU focuses on the importance of cultural contexts in global mental health, against the conspectus of the covid19 pandemic in south Asia.
