Covid-19 and Nationalism

Talk and roundtable with Bárbara Molas (Centre for the Analysis of the Radical Right), Ulf Hedetoft & Joana Duyster Borreda (both University of Copenhagen).

The current pandemic has changed all our lives. People have started to question our relationship with globalisation, nationalism and our local sense of belonging. With relations between countries being tested through border closures, lockdowns, an expected economic recession, national vaccination plans and exacerbated inequalities within national borders in terms of gender, ethnicity and class, the question remains: How will the COVID-19 pandemic impact nationalism?

Like many crises during history, also the COVID-19 pandemic strengthens far-right movements. Bárbara Molas (Centre for the Analysis of the Radical Right) will explore how the current crisis has furthered white nationalism and right-wing nationalist discourses, practices and mobilisation for right-wing groups.

We look forward to discussing with you further aspects of how the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted nationalist discourses and practices and how this could change the world we live in.
