The Byzantine Office  for the Translation of Saint Nicholas to Bari (AD 1087)

The contribution includes a historical introduction, transcriptions of selections of the music and tranlations of the texts for the Byzantine office composed on the occasion of the translation of the relics of St Nicholas to Bari in AD 1087. Texts and music is interpreted in relation to the coexistence of the Roman Latin and the Greek Byzantine Churches in the area, the political conditions in South Italy in the period around the arrival of the Normans, and the upcoming of Bari as a centre of Pan-European pilgrimage.
