The Centre for the Study of Global Nationalisms has been relaunched
On Monday, 23 February 2026, we celebrated the opening of the new Centre for the Study of Global Nationalisms. The Head of the Department of English, Germanic and Romance Studies, Lisbeth Verstraete-Hansen, underscored the urgent need for producing knowledge on new forms of nationalism and the narratives, symbols and imaginaries they build upon.
The centre’s mission is to develop into an international hub in this field, working in close collaboration with initiatives such as HUM:Global, UCPH Geopolitics and CEMES, and reaching out to politics, media and civil society.
Coordinator Georg Wink and participating researchers presented the centre’s explorative network project “Lifeworlds of the New Right: Identities, Imaginaries and Idioms of the Global New Right” which just received funding from the Independent Research Fund Denmark.
The programme continued with a focus talk on Hungary and the upcoming elections and rounded off with the screening and discussion of short films on the rise of the Far Right in Argentina.
