What is a ”French” Philosophical Concept?
NB: cancelled
Is there such a thing as French philosophical concepts? In this lecture, Giuseppe Bianco will centre on the supposed uniqueness of French philosophy from its origins in the early 19th century.
This will lead to a discussion of what may not be operative in abstracto, but which still, Bianco argues, is a symptom worthy of analysis. By examining the common idea of a national tradition through the lens of historical sociology, Bianco traces how French philosophy developed and spread over 150 years and what it incorporated and exported in the process. Such investigations allow us to reconsider current historiographies of philosophy and the construction of national canons.
