Engerom History (EGR-Hist)

The group aims to meet four times per semester, for one hour, from 12 to 1 PM.

Members of the group may pitch suggestions for activities to the group coordinator, or the coordinator may approach members. Each meeting will include short updates and news sharing while eating lunch together (30 minutes) before another activity, e.g. a presentation and or discussion (30 minutes).

“The Counter-Enlightenment Liberalism of the Argentine New Right"

Libertarianism, currently on the rise in Latin America, represents an unprecedented ideological mix. In this talk, Aurelio Poles will present the topic of his research to EGRHIST research group, examining how the traditional discourse of Hispanic-Catholic organicism has merged with the lexicon of free markets and liberal individualism producing what could be defined as a form of “Counter-Enlightenment liberalism.”

Research seminar: “Memory and nationalism

It is widely assumed that one of the aspects characterizing a nation is the idea of a shared past. National memory and the connections between nationalism and remembering are crucial parts of memory studies. While in recent decades memory scholars have called for more research into cosmopolitan, transcultural, or transnational mnemonic formations, these calls also recognize the continuing relevance of the nation as a main condition for public remembering and memory politics. The seminar will take the form of an informal sharing of on-going research related to memory and nationalism across the Universities of Lund, Malmö, and Copenhagen.

Time and location: Wednesday 18 November 2026, full-day event at South Campus.

• 17 April, 10:15 am -12: Guest Lecture with Simon Specht (Potsdam) on Semantics of Progress (10.15-11) followed by a discussion with the group (11-12).
