Second International Advisory Board Meeting

In the beginning of June 2022, the group met for a three-day seminar at the University of Copenhagen. At the seminar, the project team gave an overview on the project’s interim results halfway through the project and presented among other things the project’s initial theory-based operationalizations of plurilingual education and language awareness, results from curriculum analysis of the language subjects in primary and secondary school and of the cross-curricular course Almen Sprogforståelse in upper secondary and developed teaching materials as the context for the project’s data collection. Based on the project’s operationalization of language awareness, the group also worked with selected classroom and interview data from primary 1, 5, 7, 9 and secondary 1 to further develop the concept of language awareness across educational levels. The aim of the seminar was also to discuss and coordinate the forthcoming EDiLiC conference to be held in Copenhagen in June 2023 as well as a proposal for a joint book publication and a special issue of the Nordic Journal of Language Teaching and Learning, both focusing on plurilingual education across educational levels.

Three inspiring days with many exciting and fruitful insights and perspectives and with many new collaborations across countries and contexts established!

The teaching materials developed in the project for primary, lower secondary and upper secondary are based on plurilingual education and create affordances for the students to develop language awareness. The teaching materials are available for free download and use.
