Roots of Retranslation: Uncovering textual networks
ENGEROM’s translation research group welcomes Professor Emerita of English Outi Paloposki from the University of Turku for an afternoon discussion on the topic of retranslation. Interested scholars and students of Translation Studies alike are invited to explore this multifaceted phenomenon, using Paloposki’s article “Reprocessing Texts: The Fine Line Between Retranslating and Revising” as a starting point. The event will delve into the intricate rhizomatic network of influences, ideologies and value judgments that shape the relationships between different versions of texts in translation. We will also discuss the methodologies used to uncover these networks, including archival research, textual analysis and digital methods.
Participants are encouraged to familiarise themselves with the following article before the event:
Paloposki, Outi, and Kaisa Koskinen. 2010. Reprocessing Texts. The Fine Line between Retranslating and Revising. Across Languages and Cultures 11 (1): 29–49.
